Meredith Papas has more than 25 years' expereince as a professional writer and her vast expereince is matched by a strong suite of academic and industry-based credentials.
In 1997 Meredith graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from CQUniversity in Rockhampton and although offered a place in the university's Honours program, she opted instead to pursue business qualifications, completing a Graduate Diploma in Management in 2000, then a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2007.
She completed her studies while working her way through a journalism cadetship and then making her way through the then AJA Gradings, while also working freelance, and training and mentoring young and aspiring journos. She sat her capstone MBA exams while seven-and-a-half months pregnant with her second child, in a tiny room at Mount Isa College of TAFE and as a young mother of two she took on her first editorship at the city's North West Star newspaper. Her first week coincided with the mayor at the time calling on all the "ugly women" from around the country to come to The Isa because the male to female ratio meant the women would be on a sure thing! Interesting times, to say the least ... and it's true there are some things that simply cannot be taught, or learnt, via a textbook.
In 2009 Meredith moved with her family back to the coast where she took on the editorship at The Gladstone Observer and it's here she went on, with the newspaper and her team, to win the highly covetted PANPA Newspaper of the Year award twice - in 2011 and 2012. The paper also won a number of PANPA branding and campaign awards under her editorship as well as the APN-ARM Newspaper of the Year. She was also named APN-ARM Editor of the Year in 2011.
In 2013, personal reasons brought Meredith and the kids back to her home town of Mackay where she worked in her role as Group Content and Group Pages Editor, and Northern and Wide Bay Regional Editor in Chief for Australian Regional Newspapers. In 2015 she was appointed editor of The Daily Mercury in Mackay and in 2016 she left newspapers and started her own business... iScribe Consulting.
Over the years, Meredith has amassed a swag of industry credentials having completed a number of writing, industry and management/leadership short courses. She has undergone DiSC and Myers Briggs profiling and is always eager to seek out professional and personal development opportunities.
So much so, that in June this year she commenced study on her second Masters degree - a Master of Counselling through the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors (AIPC).
In short, Meredith Papas has the goods. She is credentialled, experienced and highly professional. She knows what she is on about and is one of the most highly-skilled and widely-regarded practitioners in her field.
